Developers and self-builders
If you build a new house or flats, you must buy bins for the property from Dumfries and Galloway council. This applies to developers and self-built properties.
You must register a new address before you can order new bins, so we can add the new address to our collection route. It can take up to 4 weeks for a new address to be registered.
New houses
After you have registered the new address, you can order new bins. We cannot order any bins until the address has been registered. There is a charge for this service.
Each property will get three 240 litre bins:
- Grey lid bin for non-recycleable rubbish
- Blue lid bin for paper and cardboard
- Red lid bin for metals and plastics
If the property is covered by our food waste service, you'll also get kitchen and outside food waste caddies and some liners.
New flats
We can supply communal bins. Contact us to discuss your requirements, based on the number of flats and the layout of the development.
New residents
Builders and property developers are responsible for ordering bins for new properties.
Check your bin collection days to see if your property is registered with us.
If you cannot find the address, tell us and we will try to help you find out whether your property has been registered.
Homeowners
If you move into a new property and there are no bins, check with whoever you bought the property from to find out if they have already registered the property with us. They should be able to tell you if they have ordered bins and when they should be delivered.
Renters
Your landlord is responsible for ordering bins. Check with them to find out if they have already registered the property with us. They should be able to tell you if they have ordered bins and when they should be delivered.
Converted commercial and business properties
When a property changes from a commercial or business property into a residential property, it will need new residential bins. For example a hotel, office, pub or restaurant might be converted into a house or flats, and there may be commercial bins left outside the property, but they will not be collected without a commercial waste contract for them. Instead, new domestic bins must be bought from us.
Check with whoever you bought or rent from, to find out if they have already registered the property with us. They should be able to tell you if they have ordered bins and when they should be delivered.
