Report discarded needles or syringes

Find out how to report it if you find a needle or syringe.

Discarded hypodermic needles and syringes are extremely dangerous and could cause injury or infection. Our staff are trained to safely deal with this kind of waste. We treat these reports as urgent. Report it to us as soon as possible.

If we cannot remove the problem on the day the complaint is made, we'll give you advice on how to make it safe until it can be collected. Do not put yourself or others at risk:

  • do not touch a needle or syringe, not even with gloves on
  • cover it with a heavy object, for example a brick
  • make sure children cannot get near the needle or syringe
  • do not put a needle or syringe in a bin, drain or toilet

Contact your doctor or nearest hospital accident and emergency department immediately for medical advice and treatment if you are injured by a needle or syringe.
