Sarah works with communities who are looking to reduce carbon emissions. She has met some very enthusiastic people during her visits across the region while proving advice on all aspects of climate change.

FACT: Did you know many campaigns about net zero run across the year such as Energy Savers Week (January), Earth Hour (March) and Scotland’s Climate Week (September)? Sarah’s team works hard on these campaigns. Communicating with communities, businesses and other interest groups is always high on her agenda.

She is looking at energy-efficient heat networks and other ways to generate energy locally. She told us that:

“Dumfries and Galloway has a fantastic natural resource that could potentially be used to heat buildings across the region.”

FACT: There are pockets of water that lie 150m under Dumfries and they can reach up to 15 degrees Centigrade. Future technology may allow this resource to be used.

Sarah works with colleagues to look at what can be done to reduce, reuse and recycle items within the council supply chain locally and across the region.

Sarah is very proud of the breadth activity that takes place in her team and elsewhere to mitigate rising carbon emissions and adapt to the impact of climate change. She said:

“It’s the variety that gives me the most satisfaction and the fact that you are helping the planet.”

Thank you, Sarah for all your efforts in our transition to net zero.
