The events, taking place in Dumfries on 23 April and Newton Stewart on 30 April, support the council’s commitment to engaging with local businesses and ensuring fair access to public sector contracts. They also coincide with the review of the council’s Procurement Strategy at the Enabling and Customer Services Committee on 25 March, which outlines how procurement activity will align with economic development and business support priorities.
Councillor Ivor Hyslop, Chair of the Enabling and Customer Services Committee, said:
“Meet the Buyer is a key opportunity for local businesses to understand how they can work with our council and other public sector organisations. Procurement plays a crucial role in supporting our local economy, and we want to make the process as accessible as possible for businesses of all sizes. These events will provide practical guidance and valuable connections to help businesses in securing public sector work.”
The events will bring together officers from Dumfries and Galloway Council, representatives from the Supplier Development Programme and a range of public and private sector organisations – giving businesses the chance to ask questions, receive guidance and learn about upcoming tender opportunities.
Councillor Richard Marsh, Vice Chair of the Enabling and Customer Services Committee, said:
“These events are part of our wider efforts to engage with local businesses and help ensure they have the right support to compete for public sector contracts. Meet the Buyer provides a unique opportunity for businesses to gain insights, meet decision-makers and explore potential partnerships.”
Businesses attending will also hear about key themes in the council’s approach to procurement, including upcoming tenders, sustainability in supply chains and community benefits.
