Chameleons: Youth action group for LGBT+ young people and allies
In 2018, Dumfries and Galloway hosted a national LGBT gathering for young people as part of the Scottish Government's themed Year of Young People. This event brought together hundreds of young people from across Scotland and got young people in the area thinking - why can't we do this again?! With that thought the Chameleons were born and the legacy of the 2018 gathering is carried on by this group of young volunteers.
What's involved
Every year, the Chameleon's are responsible for hosting a gathering for LGBT+ young people and allies from across Dumfries and Galloway. The gathering is a safe space for young people to talk about their experiences living in rural Scotland through workshops and activities.
Based on what young people have to say at the annual gatherings, the Chameleons develop an action plan that they take forward over the year ahead. Their action plan includes a combination of issues they are going to campaign on and want to see change over. They also do recreational or social activities and opportunities to bring young LGBT people and their allies together.
