The council is represented by 43 councillors who are elected every 5 years:

  • the last council election was held on 5 May 2022
  • the next council election will be in May 2027

Whilst no one political party has overall control, the administration is formed by the Conservative and Unionist Group.

What councillors do

Councillors:

  • make policy decisions
  • make financial decisions, including setting yearly Council Tax rates
  • decide how the council should be run

Local wards

The council area is made up of 12 wards. Each ward elects 3 or 4 councillors who represent the electors and businesses in that ward.
