There are 12 electoral wards within the council. Each ward is represented by either 3 or 4 elected councillors.
When you vote in a council election, you are voting for councillors to represent you in your ward.

Ward 1 – Stranraer and the Rhins
Stranraer and the Rhins has an electorate of 11,615.
The main towns and villages are Cairnryan, Drummore, Kirkcolm, Leswalt, Portpatrick, Stranraer and Sandhead.
This ward is represented by:

Ward 2 – Mid Galloway and Wigtown West
Mid Galloway and Wigtown West has an electorate of 10,521.
The main towns and villages are Castle Kennedy, Creetown, Dunragit, Garlieston, Glenluce, Glentrool, Isle of Whithorn, Kirkcowan, Kirkinner and Braehead, New Luce, Newton Stewart and Minnigaff, Port William, Sorbie, Whauphill, The Royal Burgh of Whithorn and The Royal Burgh of Wigtown.

Ward 4 – Castle Douglas and Crocketford
Castle Douglas and Crocketford has an electorate of 7,467.

Abbey has an electorate of 8,377.

Ward 6 – North West Dumfries
North West Dumfries lies on the west side of the River Nith in old Maxwelltown.
It has an electorate of 14,929 which is just under half of the population of Dumfries.
