Ward events

Ward events allow you to engage with councillors in your ward about issues that affect you.

We hold events in all 12 council wards. Topics are suggested by the people who live there.

Ward events address issues in a ward where:

  • community engagement is needed to inform and influence changes in a project or service area
  • community volunteers can work with our council to improve the local area

Suggest a topic for an event

You can submit suggestions for events in your ward. This includes councillors, community councils and third sector organisations.

To discuss your idea informally or for more information, contact your local ward officer.

British Sign Language (BSL) users can contact us by using Contact Scotland BSL.

Approving an event

We will notify councillors about any proposals for events in their ward and ask them for feedback. At least 2 councillors (in 3-member wards) and 3 councillors (in 4-member wards) need to agree the topic before it is selected.

We will advise councillors in the neighbouring ward(s) if a topic is proposed that affects more than 1 ward. A joint event can take place if the majority of councillors in each ward agree.

The final decision on whether an event is appropriate will be made by the Community Planning and Engagement Manager in conjunction with the elected members in the relevant ward(s).

Decisions will be made a week after receiving the request. We will inform you of the decision if you have given us your contact details.

The time between the proposal being agreed and an event taking place will not be less than 6 weeks.

Deciding the format

The format of a ward event can include:

  • a visit or tour to a facility or project
  • a public panel with councillors
  • a facilitated focus group discussion
  • individual interviews (chat show format) between councillors and members of the public, community groups of council officers
  • presentations by community group(s) who receive Area Committee funding
