What's That Stat?

We have shared stories of our amazing A-to-Z workers over the past year and learned about how they make Dumfries and Galloway a wonderful place to live. This year, we are delving into the amazing facts and figures that guide our colleagues’ work through this new feature. It's time to find out ‘What’s that Stat?’

What's that stat? 225 million years
Fossilised prehistoric animal prints, 225 million years old

225 million

This is the age of the oldest object among the 90,000 held by Dumfries and Galloway Council Museums.

The fossilised prehistoric animal prints can be found at Dumfries Museum and Camera Obscura.

Dumfries and Galloway Council museums have over 20,000 hits on their websites each month and visitors can view such unusual objects as a bench that took eight members of staff to move into the Robert Burns Centre recently!

The bench was made by John Crosby, a furniture maker from Auchencairn. It was constructed from one of the elms felled at Ellisland Farm, the home of Robert Burns. The elm would have been growing at Ellisland when Burns was farming there.
