Report a dog problem

Find out how to report a dog-related problem. Dog owners must ensure that their dogs are not a nuisance.

Report a barking dog

Barking dogs, and other animal noise, cause numerous complaints. As a local authority we will do what we can to assist you with the issue, but we do not have the power to enforce noise complaints in a domestic situation.

Most disputes can be resolved by speaking with your neighbour, if you are confident in approaching them. Often the neighbour is not aware of the problem.

If you want us to get involved, we'll ask you to complete 2 weeks of noise diary sheets. This may identify a pattern of animal noise, which would form the basis of our discussions with the animal owner.

If this does not resolve the situation to your satisfaction, our free mediation service is available if everyone involved agrees to it.

The final option is for you as a complainer, or a group of complainers, to take civil action under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982, Section 49 Annoying Creatures. Contact a solicitor for help with this.
