Local Development Plan
The Local Development Plan (LDP) sets out how and where land and property will be used and where development will take place. Planning applications are assessed against the LDP.
The social and environmental impact of the Local Development Plan 2 (LDP2)
When we put together the Local Development Plan (LDP) and supplementary guidance, we also assess their social and environmental impact.
Strategic Environmental Assessments
A Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) assesses the likely impact of the LDP on the environment. The assessments are legally required and the LDP cannot be adopted until these assessments are done:

Habitat Regulation Appraisals
A Habitat Regulations Appraisal (HRA) assesses whether the LDP will have an impact on:
- Special Areas of Conservation – network of protected areas designated under the Habitats Regulations
- Special Protected Areas – protected areas for birds
- Ramsar sites – wetlands of international importance
An HRA can also be prepared for other documents when required. HRAs are legally required and the LDP cannot be adopted until these assessments are done:
