The Local Development Plan (LDP) sets out how and where land and property will be used and where development will take place. Planning applications are assessed against the LDP.
Supplementary guidance documents provide much more detail than is possible to include in Local Development Plan 2 (LDP2). They can also be updated without having to wait for a new LDP to be produced.
These adopted supplementary guidance documents all directly relate to a policy in LDP2 and have the same weight as LDP2 in the decision making process.
Planning guidance provides detail on a range of subject areas. Unlike supplementary guidance it does not form part of LDP2. Once adopted it may be a material consideration (a factor that decision-makers take into account) when making planning decisions.
One of the benefits of planning guidance is that it can be updated very quickly. It can be prepared if a new issue arises which does not have an appropriate link in the plan to allow the production of supplementary guidance.
The following list of documents were either supplementary guidance or planning guidance to the first LDP. This list was reported to the November 2019 Economy and Resources Committee for adoption at the same time as the various pieces of supplementary guidance listed above.

The following documents were adopted as supplementary guidance to the first Local Development Plan. They need to be updated and issued for consultation before they can be readopted as supplementary guidance to LDP2.
The supplementary guidance for the Open Space Strategy and Open Space and New Development Parts 3 and 4 were approved for consultation at the Economy and Resources Committee on 24 November 2020. A date for the consultation is yet to be determined.
